Troubleshooting¶
Resolve service startup, query, retention, and TLS problems.
A service is not active¶
Fix:
sudo cloud-init status --wait
sudo -iu ubuntu
sudo systemctl is-active victoriametrics.service sushi-victoriametrics-api.service
sudo journalctl -u victoriametrics.service -u sushi-victoriametrics-api.service --no-pager -n 50
Do not recreate the instance identity to force a retry.
The query is empty right after import¶
Cause: ingestion can take a few seconds. An empty first result does not by itself mean the import failed.
Fix: repeat the same GET for a bounded wait. Check the timestamp and the
value 23.5 from the example in
Getting started. Keep the sample and query
files so you can read them again after reboot without importing again.
Samples disappear¶
Cause: retention is one month. Older samples are removed. A root volume that is still attached is not a backup.
Fix: snapshot /var/lib/victoriametrics together with
/etc/victoriametrics and /home/ubuntu/.config/sushi/victoriametrics
while the services are stopped. See Operations.
The workstation call fails TLS¶
Fix: forward port 8443 and trust server.crt from this instance. On the
instance, use sushi-victoriametrics-api.
