HAProxy Community LTS¶
HAProxy Community LTS runs HAProxy 3.4.6, a long-term support release, on Ubuntu 24.04. It boots as a working HTTP load balancer on loopback, with two sample backends and a password-protected stats page, so you can see it balance and fail over before you point it at your own servers.
Launch on AWS Marketplace Getting started
What is pre-installed¶
- HAProxy 3.4.6, built from the official source tarball with OpenSSL,
zlib, PCRE2 and systemd support, installed at
/usr/sbin/haproxy. - systemd units:
haproxy.serviceruns the load balancer,sushi-haproxy-firstboot.serviceprepares the instance on first boot, andsushi-haproxy-backend@aandsushi-haproxy-backend@brun the two sample backends. - Two sample backends: small Python HTTP servers that answer with their
own name, run as the
sushi-haproxy-backendsystem user. Replace them with your own servers. - A walkthrough script at
/opt/sushi/docs/demo.sh.
Nothing secret is baked into the image. The stats password and the live configuration are created on your instance on first boot.
Ports¶
All listeners are on 127.0.0.1. There is no inbound service port, and you
do not need any inbound security group rule.
| Address | What it is |
|---|---|

How billing works¶
The software is billed by the hour while an instance is running, on the
t3.medium instance type. AWS bills EC2, EBS and data transfer separately.
The current price and any free trial are shown on the AWS Marketplace
listing and in the offer terms.
Note
A single instance is not high availability for the load balancer itself.
Where to go next¶
- Getting started: subscribe, launch, connect and watch it balance traffic.
- Configuration: replace the sample backends and open the frontend to your network.
- Operations: security, updates, backups, logs and support.
- Troubleshooting: fixes for common problems.
Upstream project¶
HAProxy is written by Willy Tarreau and the HAProxy contributors and
published under GPL-2.0 with an OpenSSL linking exception. Software Sushi
packages it independently and does not claim upstream endorsement. The exact
source used for this build is on the instance at
/usr/share/doc/haproxy/haproxy-3.4.6.tar.gz. For configuration reference
and guides, see haproxy.org.
