OpenClaw AI Agent¶
OpenClaw turns an EC2 instance into a personal AI assistant that you reach through the messaging apps you already use. This image gives you OpenClaw pre-installed on a hardened Ubuntu 24.04 server: launch it, connect over SSH, run one command, and follow the wizard to add your AI provider and channels.
Launch on AWS Marketplace Getting started
What you get¶
- Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, from Canonical's official base image.
- Node.js 22 (LTS), from NodeSource.
- OpenClaw, installed for the
ubuntuuser. Each image version pins a specific OpenClaw release, shown in the version title on the listing. - A 4 GB swap file, so Node.js memory spikes do not crash smaller instances.
- Security hardening that is on from first boot: a UFW firewall, fail2ban, key-only SSH, kernel network hardening and daily automatic security updates. See Operations.
- Log rotation for OpenClaw logs in
/var/log/openclaw/.
No credentials of any kind are baked into the image. You add your own AI provider key and channel credentials after launch.
Channels include Telegram, Slack, Discord, WhatsApp and web chat. AI providers include OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI and OpenRouter. You bring your own keys.
Ports¶
| Port | Protocol | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| 22 | TCP | SSH, as the ubuntu user, with your EC2 key pair. |
| 18789 | TCP | The OpenClaw gateway and its web dashboard. |
Both ports are open in the instance firewall. Messaging channels such as Telegram connect outbound, so they do not need an inbound port.
Recommended instance¶
A t3.medium (2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM) or larger, with the default 20 GB gp3 root
volume.
Billing¶
The software is billed by the hour while an instance is running, at a rate that depends on the instance type. The listing shows the current prices. AWS bills EC2, EBS and data transfer separately, and your AI provider bills its own usage. Stopping the instance stops the hourly software charge; terminate it to stop paying for its disk too.
Where to go next¶
- Getting started: launch, connect and run the wizard.
- Configuration: where settings live and how to reach the dashboard.
- Operations: security, updates, backups and logs.
- Troubleshooting: fixes for common problems.
