OpenTelemetry Collector Gateway¶
The official OpenTelemetry Collector core distribution (otelcol 0.162.0)
on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, set up as a local OTLP gateway on your own EC2 instance.
It receives traces, metrics and logs over OTLP HTTP and gRPC with TLS, and
writes them to a rotating local JSON file, ready for you to add your own
exporters. Everything listens on loopback only.

What is included¶
- otelcol 0.162.0, the official core linux/amd64 build, at
/opt/otelcol/bin/otelcol. - OTLP receivers for HTTP and gRPC, with a TLS certificate created for this instance on first boot.
- Processors: a memory limiter (512 MiB) and batching.
- A file exporter to
/var/lib/otelcol/out/telemetry.json, rotated at 32 MB with three backups. - Health check and internal Prometheus metrics on loopback.
- A built-in walkthrough at
/opt/sushi/docs/demo.sh.
The image contains no certificate, AWS keys or live configuration; first boot creates them.
Core distribution
This is the core Collector, not the contrib distribution. AWS exporters
such as CloudWatch or X-Ray, the SigV4 authentication extension and the
redaction processor are not included.

- Operations: security, backups, logs and support.
- Troubleshooting: fixes for common problems.
Upstream project¶
The OpenTelemetry Collector is published by the OpenTelemetry Authors under the Apache-2.0 license. Software Sushi packages it independently; this offer does not include OpenTelemetry project support. See the Collector documentation for the full reference.
