Troubleshooting¶
Common problems with the rclone transfer worker, what causes them and how to fix them.
usage: rclone-copy.sh [--dry-run]¶
Cause: the copy script accepts no options other than --dry-run. It
deliberately refuses sync and anything else.
Fix: change behaviour through /etc/rclone/rclone.env and
/etc/rclone/rclone.conf instead, see Configuration.
unsupported key in rclone.env or duplicate key in rclone.env¶
Cause: rclone.env accepts exactly four keys, each once:
RCLONE_CONFIG, RCLONE_CACHE_DIR, RCLONE_SOURCE_PATH and RCLONE_DEST.
Fix: remove the extra or repeated line. Put remote settings in
rclone.conf.
RCLONE_SOURCE_PATH must stay under /var/lib/rclone/include¶
Cause: the source, or a symbolic link inside it, points outside the
source folder. The same check applies to a local destination outside
/var/lib/rclone/destination and a cache outside /var/lib/rclone/cache.
Fix: copy the files into /var/lib/rclone/include instead of linking to
them.
RCLONE_DEST must be localdest:/var/lib/rclone/destination or s3dest:BUCKET[/PREFIX]¶
Cause: the destination uses another remote name or form.
Fix: use localdest: with a path under /var/lib/rclone/destination, or
s3dest:<bucket>/<prefix> after you enable the s3dest block, see
Copy to Amazon S3.
rclone cannot read the source directory or permission errors¶
Cause: the rclone user cannot read the source folder or some files in
it.
Fix: chown -R rclone:rclone /var/lib/rclone/include, or give the
rclone user read access.
S3 access denied¶
Cause: the instance has no IAM role, the role is missing a permission, or the bucket rejects ACL headers.
Fix: check the permissions listed in
Copy to Amazon S3, make sure
env_auth = true is set and acl is not, and that the bucket already exists.
Wrong region or bucket location errors¶
Cause: region and location_constraint in the s3dest block do not
match the bucket.
Fix: set region to the bucket's region. Leave location_constraint
empty for us-east-1, and set it to the same region everywhere else.
A scheduled copy stops before it finishes¶
Cause: each run of rclone-copy.service is stopped after one hour.
Fix: run the copy again; files already copied are skipped. For a large
first transfer, run sudo -u rclone /opt/sushi/bin/rclone-copy.sh from a
session, which has no such limit.
First boot failed¶
Cause: first boot refuses to work with managed files or folders that are symbolic links or not regular files.
Fix: read the log, replace those entries with regular files or folders, and retry:
