Messaging channels¶
Talk to Hermes from a messaging app instead of a terminal. Telegram, Discord and Slack are installed in the image. All are optional: Hermes and n8n work without any of them.
Connect a channel¶
Run Hermes's setup again and choose the messaging section:
Follow its questions for your app. Telegram, for example, needs a bot token from @BotFather and the user IDs allowed to talk to the bot. Then restart the gateway so it picks up the change:
Outbound only
Hermes connects out to each messaging service over HTTPS. You do not need to open any inbound port for messaging.
Who can talk to your Hermes¶
Each channel decides who may message the bot. Keep that list to the people you trust: anyone who can message Hermes can ask it to use your model provider at your cost, and, once the workflow builder is connected, to change workflows it created in n8n.
Checking a channel¶
The gateway's log shows each channel connecting, or why it could not.
