Getting started

Launch the PDF translator, sign in, and translate the bundled sample.

You need: an AWS account that can subscribe, launch EC2, and start Session Manager, plus an OpenAI-compatible translation model. No key is included.

Watch on YouTube.

1. Subscribe

Open the PDF Translator listing, choose View purchase options, review the terms, and subscribe. When the subscription is active, choose Launch your software.

2. Launch the instance

  1. Choose t3.large with at least 8 GiB of memory.
  2. Use an encrypted gp3 root volume of at least 32 GiB.
  3. Require IMDSv2 and attach AmazonSSMManagedInstanceCore.
  4. Leave inbound application ports closed.
  5. Choose Launch instance.

Wait until cloud-init finishes. First boot creates this instance's TLS certificate and sign-in password and starts the translator on port 8443. Do not print the password or the translation key.

3. Run the walkthrough

sudo -iu ubuntu bash /opt/sushi/docs/demo.sh

Read /opt/sushi/docs/README.md for where the sign-in password is stored.

4. Open the page

Forward port 8443 and trust the certificate from this instance before you open the page.

aws ssm start-session --target <instance-id> \
  --document-name AWS-StartPortForwardingSession \
  --parameters '{"portNumber":["8443"],"localPortNumber":["8443"]}'

Sign in with the password from the image notes. Do not disable certificate checks.

5. Translate the sample

Save the HTTPS translation service, model, and key in /etc/pdf-translator/provider.json after launch. Translate the bundled one-page sample. Download the Spanish PDF and the bilingual PDF.

Next, see Configuration.
